Schmidt, Houmard, Seraphine, Johnson pick up wins at Division 7 event in Fontana, Calif.

Gabrielle Schmidt (age 8-9), Ryan Houmard (10-12), Brandon Seraphine (13-14), and Brittany Johnson (15-17) outlasted the competitors in their respective age categories to win the third race in the 2008 Pacific Division Jr. Championship Series.
Schmidt defeated Caden Willet to earn top honors in the 8-9 age group. Houmard bested Justin Ball in the 10-12 class final. Seraphine outlasted Tom Dutcher to win the 13-14 category, and Johnson won the battle of former NHRA O’Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing League Western Conference Finals champions over Jimmy Morosan to claim the trophy in the 15-17 age group.
After three events, Willett is the points leader in the 8-9 age group, leading Kaitlyn Savolt by just one point. Dylan Cowling is tops in the 10-12 age group, Seraphine leads the 13-14 category, and Johnson is at the top of the standings in the 15-17 class. |

Jr. Comp Series created in Division 5
Jr. Comp racers in the midsection of the country will have more opportunities to compete in 2008 with the creation of the Sioux City Truck and Trailer Sales Jr. Comp Series. The eight-race series, which also receives sponsorship support from Earl Weston and Prosser/Wilbert Construction Inc., begins June 15 at Kearney Raceway Park. Rolling Thunder Dragstrip at Mid-America Motorplex will host events June 28 and Aug. 1, Eddyville Raceway Park will hold events Aug. 9-10, Heartland Park Topeka hosts the series on Aug. 1, and Kansas City Int’l Raceway has a double-header day slated for Sept. 21. In addition, the Jr. Comp Open at the NHRA O’Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing League Western Conference Finals at Bandimere Speedway in Denver, Colo., will be a points-earning event |

Jegs Ohio Jr. Dragster Super Series created for 2008 season
Five NHRA member tracks in Ohio have joined forces to host the Jegs Ohio Jr. Dragster Super Series in 2008. The series will consist of six races with competition in four age categories: 8-9, 10-12, 13-14, and 15-17. The series kicks off at Edgewater Sports Park June 7, followed by events at Tri-State Dragway (June 8), Pacemakers Dragway Park (Aug. 3), National Trail Raceway (Aug. 17), and Kil-Kare Dragway (Sept. 20). The series will wrap up Sept. 28 at Tri-State Dragway. |

Jr. Comp Open returns to Western Conference Finals in 2008
NHRA Jr. Comp campaigners will once again get a chance to shine at the NHRA O’Reilly Auto Parts Jr. Drag Racing League Western Conference Finals presented by JR Race Car with the return of the Jr. Comp Open. The July 24-26 event at Bandimere Speedway will play host to an open field of Jr. Comp cars. All licensed Jr. Comp drivers ages 14 to 24 may enter the event. |

Valvoline unveils scholarship program for automotive tech education
In an initiative to demonstrate its commitment to young adults who share a passion for cars and vehicle care, Valvoline has announced a scholarship program to aid students in pursuit of an automotive technical career. Known as the Valvoline Automotive Technical Scholarship, the program will award five $1,000 scholarships and a $10,000 grand-prize scholarship. |
