James, Hussey, Gaynor Claim First Summit Shootout Titles of 2023
July 26, 2023

After Mother Nature prevented the first NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Shootout event at the NHRA New England Nationals from being completed, the program got back on track in Bristol, Denver, and Seattle with the eight-car shootouts being completed as scheduled. When the dust settled, Hayden James (Bristol), Kiari Hussey (Denver), and Ty Gaynor (Seattle) took home the shootout trophies.

BRISTOL

Hayden James earned the NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Shootout trophy during the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway. James turned a reaction-time advantage of more than .03-second into a 7.975 (7.90 dial) to 8.002 (7.94) victory over Kaden Pruett in the final.

DENVER

Kiari Hussey won the Dodge Power Brokers NHRA Mile-High Nationals Shootout crown, outlasting Crue Casteel. In the final, Hussey left the starting line first, .027 to .047, then ran closer in the dial to win the double-breakout match with Casteel, 8.085 (8.10) to 7.881 (7.90).

SEATTLE

Ty Gaynor bested Cody Mackey to claim top honors at the Flav-R-Pac NHRA Northwest Nationals. Gaynor was better at the Tree by more than .07-second, then clocked an 8.179 (8.09) to turn on the win light against Mackey, who posted an 8.008 (7.96).
