The 2020 Division 1 NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series kicked off at New England Dragway in Epping, N.H., in June, and when the dust settled, Cody Cumming (age 6-9), Paul Stalba (10-12), and Kyle Rice (13-17) hoisted Wallys in their respective categories. (photos by Diane Kubicke)
In the 6-9 age group, Cumming got off the starting line first and carried the advantage to a 12.219 (12.10 dial) to 14.304 (14.20) victory over Emma Stodulski.
The 10-12 final was a battle of siblings with Paul Stalba, near lane, taking on sister Emily for the trophy. Paul cut a near-perfect .007 light, then ran a 9.056 (8.92) to turn on the win light against Emily’s 9.048 (8.92).
Rice, near lane, also was better on the Tree in his final-round battle, leaving first by more than .03-second against Abbie Croteau. Rice then powered to an 8.142 (8.09) to defeat Croteau’s 7.972 (7.92).
