SACRAMENTO RACEWAY PARK (June 20-21) – Blaine DeNunzio unofficially moved to the top of the NHRA Pacific Division Jr. Championship Series points standings after his final-round win in the 6-9-year-old class at Sacramento Raceway Park. DeNunzio defeated Boden Cook in the final round. Braiden Chesleigh, who won at the Fallon JDRL event a week earlier, made a big move in the 15-17-year-old group points standings with his second win in two weeks, driving his electric-powered dragster to a final-round win over Jenna Kirk.
Tessa Clinton won her first race of the season when she defeated Dylan Ellsworth in the 10-12-year-old class final, and Donovan Sumpter was the winner in the 13-14-year-old division, stopping Cy Mitchell in the final. Jon Flores drove the “Dream Weaver” Jr. Comp dragster his second win in two weeks, stopping defending division series champ Tyler Smith in the final.
Logan Oliveira defeated Fallon divisional winner Jacob Hood in the final round of the 6-9-year-old category on Saturday. Colt Saum of Norman, Okla., won the 10-12-year-old class with a final-round victory over Tucson, Ariz., racer Allison Bolle. Kasher Frye won his first race of the year by defeating Dylan Hegwood in the 13-14-year-old group, and Ava Glenn of Ridgefield, Wash., won the 15-17-year-old final with a .001 reaction time to defeat Drake Padgett in the final. Chris Klostrich beat Nolan Oliveira in a double-breakout race in Jr Comp, 6.886 to a 6.879 (6.90 index).
The final two races of the 2020 Summit Jr. Drag Racing League points series is scheduled for August 29-30 at Auto Club Dragway. – Bob Johnson
